What is PULP

PULP noun \ˈpəlp\

  1. 1. A digital publishing platform for professional and aspiring writers, editors, agents and publishers
  2. 2. Web-based software that helps you and your team take your living eBook from manuscript to money in the bank

Features

Content Management → Edit your content within PULP or upload files in commonly used formats from your favorite editor, graphics, or multimedia application. Invite content contributors and others via email, track their progress, and approve their work. Track the revision history of each piece, see differences between versions, and selectively publish or withdraw content based upon date, membership level, and other factors.

Reading → Provide your publication via the PULP live reader and reach popular mobile and tablet devices in either HTML 5 and/or downloadable app format. Export PULP publications to a neutral format for use elsewhere.

Accounting → Automate your royalty arrangements including advances, earn outs, tiers, fixed-fees and amounts due. Pay royalties and track payment history. Review detailed performance reports on purchase activity and behaviors by membership type, payment channel and more.

E-Commerce → Sell your publication in the ways that changing consumer behaviors demand. Offer publications by one-time price, recurring subscription, at various membership levels, according to online community behavior and more. Coalesce sales activity from across multiple channels and payment processing methods into a single master view of your business.

Community Management → Bring the community of readers and all that they contribute into the reading experience rather than sending them elsewhere. Forums, wikis, profiles, ranking, badges and more are all at your disposal for nurturing, rewarding, and maintaining your community.

API → Quickly assemble and sell your own content-based Web applications that take advantage of the other PULP capabilities at no additional cost. Keep it simple or create highly-customized applications with the precise look and feel that you desire using familiar Web technologies.

Technology

The PULP platform is securely deployed in the cloud such that you need not install any PC or server software at all. Just login and get started. PULP is deployed with security, high availability, and high performance in mind and includes a generous service level agreement that spells out how we stand behind PULP and your business.

Legal Framework

Leverage PULP's re-usable legal terms to protect your publication and address how it is consumed by readers while minimizing up-front legal time and cost. Extend this legal framework to meet your unique circumstances and preferences.

Pricing

Brainstem Media Inc.

It Is Small But Important

The brainstem manages messages between the brain and the body to control vital bodily functions without conscious thought. This is reminiscent of the vital role that PULP, the Personal Ubiquitous Literature Platform, can play in the production, management and sale of professional digital publications.

PULP began in 2009 as part of a collaborative, transmedia publishing experiment called " The Mongoliad."

While developing "The Mongoliad," we were surprised to discover that the range of software tools that we wanted to use were only available in bits and pieces or not at all. So, little by little, we built our own based upon the particular needs of our multi-disciplinary, far-flung team of professional writers, gamers, and artists as well as our community of readers. In 2012, we created Brainstem Media to make PULP available to the rest of the world.
